NASA Temperature Anomalies By Latitude Bands Time Series 1880-2018
This dataset offers a historical view on temperature anomalies (i.e. deviations from the corresponding 1951-1980 means) starting with January 1880 and until 2018. The annually estimated values contained in this dataset are averages for band latitudes from Northern and Southern Hemispheres earth.

Description
The source of the data contained in this dataset is NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies that represent an output of GISS Surface Temperature Analysis. Research at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) emphasizes a broad study of global change, which is an interdisciplinary initiative addressing natural and man-made changes in the environment. GISS is located at Columbia University in New York City. The institute is a laboratory in the Earth Sciences Division of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and is affiliated with the Columbia Earth Institute and School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The GISS Surface Temperature Analysis (GISTEMP) is an estimate of global surface temperature change. Graphs and tables are updated around the middle of every month using current data files from National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Global Historical Climatology Network (meteorological stations), Extended Reconstructed Sea Surface Temperature (ocean areas) and Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (Antarctic stations), combined as described in NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, December 2010 publication (Hansen et al. 2010). The model compares alternative analyses and addresses questions about perception and reality of global warming; various choices for the ocean data are tested; it is also shown that global temperature change is sensitive to estimated temperature change in polar regions, where observations are limited.
The estimated averages are calculated after outliers removing and with homogeneity adjustment. In the same time, the average temperature for the season (December-January-February) of 1950 is calculated by subtracting Feb 1950 from Dec 1949.
